Time to Decide Has Come Dear Readers: As the South Asian sub-continent comes out of the Holiday Mode, both Indian and Pakistan capitals are busy in preparing for landmark events which may determine the fate of many politicians and men in power. In Pakistan General Musharraf is finally ready to talk shop with the Opposition which has blocked all his efforts to bulldoze himself into acquiring legitimacy, political and constitutional. Next week he begins serious discussions but would still try to hang on to his power base, the army uniform. In India the Vajpayee Government has come around to talk peace with Pakistan and in doing so is confused whether to recognize PM Jamali or talk to Army strongman Musharraf. Vajpayee may end up talking to both, but in vain as Musharraf has no credibility and Jamali has no power. We cover the Pak India peace process in detail this week. |
