Cutting a Very Sorry Figure Dear Readers: There is something gravely wrong in General Musharraf’s Islamabad, or precisely his Rawalpindi GHQ, these days. Suddenly he felt the need to address the nation on TV. Then decided not to do so and called the Editors of leading newspapers instead. Then decided that his question-answer session with the Editors could not be shown to the nation. So a censored version without some key questions was shown. Musharraf himself admitted he had almost 12 hours of discussion with his Formation Commanders spread over four days on critical issues. But look what he is doing after this discussion. He has refused to inaugurate Parliament fearing humiliation. He has called parliamentarians in groups to convince them. He has threatened them of dire consequences. He has begged them to give him time. He thinks he is Pakistan and without his uniform Pakistan will be no more. He lives in Cuckooland, said one columnist after hearing him. Pakistan needs some wisdom and one man claims he has all. Pray he gets it from somewhere. In prayers |
